ABOUT US

The concept for the new sailing club arose when 5 like minded individuals, each a yacht owner with a love of yachting, decided to get together to launch a new Sailing Club for dedicated sailors – without politics and with a view to developing a type of club which scarcely exists, a members club with a common interest in sailing but without the diversion of social membership.

The new club was registered as the Peninsular Sailing Club and, as it is based in Selangor, this was added. A constitution was drafted and agreed as well as Rules to ensure it remains a club run by sailors. The 5 founders form the initial Club Committee with a separate Sailing Committee comprised of those with a special interest in this area to organise the racing, which is the centre point of any club. They approached a well known and respected person to become Race Officer and advise the Sailing Committee on the requirements to organise this properly to international standards.

From the beginning, and as part of the concept, the Pulau Indah Marina was selected as the base. Whilst it is currently undeveloped, principally because a marina needs a yacht club, just a yacht club needs a marina, it does have basic facilities which can and are being extended to provide a range of storage, repair and maintenance facilities. A marina is so much easier base for sea based boats and Pulau Indah has beautiful clean water with a good location close to the sea. Potentially a great location for a club. So far we have arranged a temporary area for drinks and snacks pending the planned larger long term base

The founders are determined to make the new club a success and, undoubtedly, the freedom that such a new situation gives; to develop in any or many directions in sailing, is a massive advantage, whether it be dinghies or model yachts, as the members wish, We have leased 2 National Squib class keelboats imported from the UK which are ideal for training and enabling us to arrange match racing in future. The Club intends to hold regular racing for interested members and to develop a junior section.
